In
the early part of the war Roland
Lees worked on Chain Home Low including RF (Radio
Frequency) test equipment and aerial
matching. He also developed common aerial working
with Banwell - to enable the use of one aerial for both
transmitting and receiving.
Later he joined Alan Hodgkin in the group working on
guided weapons. After the war he continued to work
on homing for guided weapons.
He later became Director Signals Research & Development
Establishment (SRDE) 1963 - 1966 and subsequently
Director Royal Signals & Radar Establishment (RSRE) 1976
