Joe Airey Joe Airey joined Watson-Watt to work on radio research in 1924 and was put in charge of the supporting manufacturing activities involved. He was the member of the original radar team responsible for the construction of aerial masts and other equipment. He remained with the Radar team until he retired as Station Engineer for RSRE responsible for site management and transport. He was awarded the MBE in recognition of his work.
