John Adams
Extract from Royal Society biography (see links
below):
"Between 1940 and 1945 he worked at the
Telecommunications Research Establishment first at
Swanage and later at Malvern, his particular
responsibility being microwave radar systems. His
engineering talent and skills were well recognized by
this stage, so much so that his seniors at Malvern,
notably Herbert Skinner and Arthur Starr, succeeded in
obtaining his promotion into the Scientific Class of the
Civil Service, in spite of the absence of the
'necessary' paper qualifications."
He married Renie Warburton
in 1943.
After the war he worked at the Atomic
Energy Research Establishment, Harwell. In 1953 he
moved to CERN, Geneva where he subsequently became Director.
