Document Summary

Title:  RAF Christchurch by Sqn Ldr Hayward - 2 Airborne Radar
Author:  Hayward, Sqn Ldr Frank
Abstract: The start of airborne radar development leading to setting up the Aerodrome at Christchurch is described.
This is a very interesting account of how Dr E.G. Bowen started airborne radar development in 1936 by borrowing an aircraft from RAF Martlesham Heath. The move to the airfield at Scone in Scotland when war started and then via RAF St Athan, near Cardiff, to Christchurch is covered.
